The software upgrade announced for the UK Retail Imaging Show has finally been launched. The clever 'Assistant' in the FotoInsight Designer photo book software will then be able to design a 130 page extra large photo book in under three minutes, For this the application automatically lays out the pages with the chosen images and can put these in order of date, file name or event.

When designing a photobook page by page hundreds of templates in the free software help to position images. A "Help Grid" can be turned on in the application's editor window to provide optical guiding in positioning photographs and text. The size of the grid can be changed and the application can make pictures stick to the grid lines. An even finer positioning can be achieved by zooming into the editor.

Any picture can go without, with a standard or an individual frame to set the photo apart from the background or layered images. Text can be written on any part of any page or it can be copied & pasted from a word processor or other application. This ensures that names and dates can be recorded and the text of for example a wedding speech can live on for future generations.

Repeat Orders

Once the photo book of a holiday or party arrives everyone is cheering and many want their own copy. With the new release arrives what many regular FotoInsight customers have been asking for: the re-ordering option. During six weeks after an order a photo book can be re-ordered without having to upload the layout again. Photobooks ordered by the 16th of December should be delivered in time for Christmas.

Cambridge. 7 November 2008. – The resolution of digital cameras is rising constantly. Many digital photographs could impress at home or in an office meeting room, when printed as a laminated poster or a stretched canvas in a floating frame. With the right image it makes a worthy present.

FotoInsight, a specialist serving amateur and professional photographers alike, prints canvases in different sizes from 20x30 cm / 12”x8” (minimum resolution 800 x 1100 pixel) to 60x80 cm / 32”x24” (2500 x 3300 pixel recommended). NEW: Laminated and framed poster prints

The so called Deco-block was originally developed to hang art prints. It simulates the wood frame used to stretch a canvas. FotoInsight laminates the poster prints onto the block and then seales the surface with a layer of matt UV-protection vanish. The sealed surface warrants a much improved humidity and UV-resistance. The website provides a preview of the poster to help choose among a range of Nielsen wood frames.

Collage Poster Tool

With the new version of software its “Designer” FotoInsight provides tools to create collage posters. For a collage up to 98 images can be layered to form a single poster print, which optionally can come laminated and framed.

The new "Colour Sorting" tool will help when designing the book manually. The "Colour Sorting" tool in the upcoming FotoInsight Designer can put images in order of colour, helping to eliminate duplicates and to avoid the repetition of similar images. It is also a handy tool for an esthetically appealing design achieving the right contrasts between images. Another interesting addition to the upgrade is a new "Image Collage Tool", which can create a collage page of up to 199 images. The position of each individual image in the "Collage Tool" can be adjusted or changed, just as it can be done everywhere else in the photo calendar or book layouts. Electronic Stock Markets (ESM)

The prediction market is based on the "Electronic Stock Market Technology" (ESM) developed by ECCE TERRAM. It is based on theses by Friedrich von Hayek, who in 1974 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. From Professor von Hayek's findings it derives that more accurate prediction of future events can be made if people trade shares about them with the opportunity to obtain a profit. Frank Simon, Managing Director of ECCE TERRAM: "ESMs in the form of prediction markets provide surprisingly accurate results for opinion research and serve as a prognostics instrument to generate forecasts". The user's interest in trading shares and the chance for personal gain as well as the opportunity to create accurate forecasts bind the user into the online service and increase traffic to the website. The technology starts from a base different to traditional opinion research. Interviews, polls and e-votes use questions like "how would you vote?" The Electronic Stock Markets ask "what do you expect the outcome to be?" Traders therefore buy and sell based on their expectation of the outcome. These reflect in the prices at which shares trade. The system can then, based on the share price, calculate forecasts.

Today FotoInsight launches the larger photo book format in Ireland and the Euro-Zone countries. The new version of the FotoInsight Pro software is available as a free download.

Cambridge, 18 Apr. 2008. – Most households use digital cameras and a growing share take high resolution pictures which can be enlarged to poster size. While computers, mobile phones and cameras have a tendency to become ever more compact, the resolution (or number of pixels) of digital images is growing ever larger. In line with it grows the demand for large format prints. FotoInsight serves this trend with posters, canvas printing and the new XL photobooks, in which pictures can extend across a 60 cm wide double page spread.

“The digital image quality has improved vastly. The demand for our large format print products like poster- and canvas print has experienced enormous growth” explains FotoInsight’s Managing Director Klaas Brumann and adds: “It was therefore only logical to add a large photo book format; the new XL photo book to our range.”

The FotoInsight Pro photo book software is intuitive and does not require specialist knowledge. According to the vendor, the Layout Assistant in its “FotoInsight Pro” photobook software can design a coffee table style photo book in XL-format in under three minutes. Users with time and patience may enjoy designing their own printed photo album page by page or simply refine the Layout Assistant’s design with texts and repositioning the images.

A New Photo Book for 60 cm Wide Landscapes Spread Across Double Pages

FotoInsight now offers a range of 94 different photo book formats counted by cover, size and number of pages. Online photo processing, where real photographic paper is used for prints, is nowadays as popular as traditional photo labs used be in the 1990's. The routes to the lab are becoming increasingly varied and flexible. Apart from the existing routes via the  Internet using Windows PC, Mac or Linux software, a Point of Sale Terminal or online, ECCE TERRAM is now introducing its first "Photo2lab Client for iPhone" at the PMA 2008 in Las Vegas.

The iPhone's photo printing range will kick off with a mini-photobook (10x15cm, 16 pages) and a post card service. The user selects photos, creates a postcard with text and images in the editing tool, moves the images with one finger, rotates and zooms pictures with two fingers and does a double click to browse. The application can pick the postcard's recipients postal address straight from the contact list.



ECCE TERRAM's "Photo2lab" services production partners print the post cards and post them directly to the recipient - or the  photo book to the buyer or to a delivery address for a present.

Specialist developer ECCE TERRAM is showing at this year’s PMA how setting up a digital photo processing service in store or online is becoming easier with open software modules. ECCE TERRAM is also celebrating a new mile stone with 132 million photo prints being ordered through its middleware software components. These solutions help to improve photo services' independence and negotiation power and provide access to a range of components to cover varying requirements.

Oldenburg Germany and Las Vegas, NV. January 22nd, 2008 – Online photo services converting digital images into traditional photographic paper prints are reaching the volumes of traditional photo labs in the 1990’s. Digital photo processing is a growth industry, but only a few developers have the experience and depth to create complete 'end user to photo lab' software solutions. The specialist Internet software developer ECCE TERRAM will be presenting the latest 'off the shelf', modular software solutions for online photo services, web portals, photo labs and purchasing associations at the international PMA exhibition in Las Vegas in January 2008, including client software and middleware releases currently in preparation.

 

Photo Lab Software Solutions

Together the Photo Lab Software processing components build flexible, state-of-the-art solutions. These range from order processing using online stores, point-of-sale terminals and offline software clients for Windows, Macintosh and Linux using an open protocol connecting to any photo lab or printer. The PTS middleware processes the orders using a central user database, which allows splitting orders to cover production requirements (e.g. mixed orders for standard prints, posters and gift items). Lab plug-ins built the third layer in ECCE TERRAM’s ‘Photo2Lab’ solution. The lab plug-ins currently support for example DPL, Allcop, ORWO, CeWeColor, DWM and Frontline. Increasingly specialists from the growing sector of photo book, calendar and gift item printing, like Ifuse, Snapmania are being supported by ECCE TERRAM.

ECCE adds ICC Profiles to its Middleware

At PMA ECCE Terram is adding ICC Profiles to its Middleware as an option for photo labs catering for professional photographers. These solutions allow to indicate image optimization for individual image files and make re-ordering prints easier. In addition, the ECCE Photo Suite offline client will  integrate the HDX4 Photo Manager. It serves to optimise the pictures per mouse click before uploading them to the Internet, in order to bring out the best of the photographs. This is important because large photo labs find it increasingly costly to correct or optimise images in photo albums and calendars. The Managing Director of the developer ECCE TERRAM, Frank Simon states: "Among our customers are ORWO, Farbglanz Imaging, Pixelnet, Focus, TV Spielfilm, Kodak and many more. ECCE Photo Suite adds Photo Book and Calendar Editor Modules at PMA

ECCE TERRAM created the new generation of offline photo ordering clients (Windows, MacOS and Linux) with a modular structure. New modules for photo book and calendar design are being released during the PMA Trade Fair. A new postcard module which handles franking and mailing directly to the cards recipient will also be revealed during the PMA. The applications are brandable through graphics, logos and colors and are used by labs and services of different sizes, from large central labs like ORWO and DPL, book and gift printers to mini labs. Catering for European and international businesses ECCE TERRAM’s applications are easy to localize and are available in several European languages.

 

Multi Lingual Solutions with Source Code License

With Photo2Lab's ready made solutions, any store or website can become an independent online photo service. ECCE TERRAM founder Frank Simon points out: “ECCE TERRAM endeavors with Photo2Lab software to allow photo services to allocate production orders, moving the control over the process from the large central labs back to the photo service.
